Dear Ecole Armstrong Elementary School Families,
Welcome Back! I trust you all had the best summer you could during these challenging times. The school staff and I are looking forward to welcoming our students back for the 2021/2022 school year.
School will begin Tuesday September 7, 2021. I feel privileged and look forward to, once again, serving the Armstrong students and their families, staff and community. Our school continues to have a rich and deep tradition of respect, care and commitment to learning.
Each student will be afforded the opportunity to learn according to their individual and unique learning style; the knowledge that they are always the ‘lens’ through which we make all of our decisions; that they are secure in the knowledge that every adult who works at Armstrong models those virtues and values we expect from our students. We believe that every single student and their potential to be a LEADER.
At Armstrong, we have just over 400 students – your children – many of whom are or will be feeling, over the next several days, a sense of anticipation, excitement, trepidation, hopefulness and thinking of all the possibilities, wishes and dreams of what lays ahead this school year.
There will be some changes this school year. At the moment we no longer need to stagger start and end times and there will not be cohorts as per last year. Our bell schedule is as follows:
8:50 am warning bell (students may enter classrooms)
8:55 am school instruction begins
10:30-10:45 am recess
12:00-12:58 pm lunch (Primary students will eat first then go outside. Intermediate students will go outside first then eat lunch as per last school year)
3:00 pm school will be dismissed
Masks are mandatory for all school staff and students from grades 4-7. In grades K-3 mask wearing is encouraged. Families will still need to complete daily health checks. If your child is sick they are required to stay home. Students will still enter and exit the school using their classroom doors. The school building is only open for essential visitors only. School doors will remain locked as per last school year.
New this year September 30th will be National Day of Reconciliation. School will not be in session for staff and students on this day. We will recognize Orange Shirt Day on September 29th.
With the School District’s approval, we are hoping to be able to organize new classrooms by Monday September 13th. If you are a returning or new student but will be away for the first week of school, please let the school office know!
On behalf of our entire staff, I would like to thank you all for your commitment, support and trust in our staff and school community.
I look forward to the journey ahead of us that is the 2021/2022 school year!
Mr. F. De Vita
